The Deceased field already exists on every Client record under Basic Details - you can already mark a Client as Deceased and record the date of death. Plannr makes it more visually obvious across the Client record, tile, and including it under the search and export filters.
The aim is to improve visualisation around knowing if a Client is deceased at a quick glance, as well as the ability to filter and export your deceased Client base - useful for compliance, estate handling, and clean-up purposes.
To be clear: nothing about how you capture or edit deceased data is changing. You'll continue to set deceased status in Basic Details exactly as you do today. This update is purely about making that existing data more visible and easier to act on.
1. Deceased flag banner on the Client record
When you open a Client record where the Client has already been marked as deceased in Basic Details, a grey banner will now appear at the top of the record reading:
"[Client Name] is deceased"
The banner surfaces information already captured - the moment a record is opened.
The banner is read-only - to update deceased status, you'll continue to edit Basic Details as you do today.
2. Deceased indicator on the Client tile
The Client tile / header (the same area showing the Client's name, status, and Tags) will now display a Deceased indicator when the Client has been marked as deceased. This gives your team at-a-glance visibility even before opening the full Client record.
Deceased Clients will display a grey indicator, visually distinct from the pink and yellow Vulnerability indicators.
3. Filter by deceased status on the Client search screen
The Client search screen will gain a new Is Deceased filter, sitting alongside your existing filters (Tags, Groups, etc.). You can filter by:
Yes — Clients recorded as deceased
No — Clients not recorded as deceased
The filter combines with any other active filters on the search screen.
4. Filter by deceased status on the Client Export screen
The Client Export will gain the same Is Deceased filter, so your team can quickly produce an export of your deceased Client base - useful for compliance reporting, estate/probate work, internal reviews, or clean-up exercises.
5. When a Client is both deceased and vulnerable
If a Client is recorded as both deceased AND vulnerable, the Deceased flag takes precedence visually. You'll see the grey Deceased banner and indicator in place of the Vulnerability ones.
The underlying vulnerability data is not changed — it's still recorded against the Client and accessible via Basic Details. If the deceased status is ever removed, the Vulnerability flag will reappear as expected.
What this means for you:
If you don't currently use the Deceased field
The field has always been available under Basic Details → Deceased. With this update, anything you record will now be surfaced clearly to your team across the Client record, tile, search, and export — supporting safer handling of deceased Client records and helping prevent inadvertent client-facing actions.
Estate and probate workflows
The new grey banner and indicator make it immediately obvious when a Client record relates to a deceased individual, which is especially useful when handling estate enquiries, beneficiary contact, or probate-related work — without needing to drill into the record first.
How to set or update deceased status
Deceased status continues to be set and edited on the Client record under Basic Details. The existing fields remain as-is:
Deceased status — Yes / No
Date of death — the date the Client passed away
